23rd June: Any traceuses from Vancouver Canada?
Tiara from Vancouver has started a blog for traceuses in Vancouver Canada and would love for others to join her :) in her words:
"Hi all, I'm a traceuse living in Vancouver who is looking for other girls who want to train and practice together. I've started a little website to try to get a few more girls in the area on board. I can't seem to decide if there are simply few girls training, or if I just haven't found them yet.
For those of you not in Vancouver, can you spread the word to friends that you know who ARE in Vancouver and who want to train? I spent two years training very hard with Mofaya Parkour in South Africa, and I'm happy to help any girls with the basics if they are willing to stick around and be persistent with it.
Visit the website: Rain City Girls Thanks everyone for your help. Encouragement is heartily appreciated!
- Tiara"

15th May: The Zen Discipline of Accepting Yourself Through Acts of Being Ballsy
Everyone (yes, even the supermodels) have moments when we look in the mirror and see our perceived physical flaws. Some women wonder, "Is my bodyshape really right for parkour?" Author and traceuse Cory explains, " the word ballsy has a masculine-connotation, gets to play the essay's concepts of contrasting femininity." So read up and welcome in The Zen
"Ballsy": adjective, balls·i·er, balls·i·est. Slang: Usually Vulgar. boldly aggressive or courageous: a ballsy gal who isn't afraid of anyone. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/ballsy

2nd May: Tra la la, here comes the gallery It seems like May has come far too quickly ;) Hasten yourself to view the gallery!
1st May: Volcano with unpronounceable name has finally stopped
Last month was a real pain (to put it mildly) for travellers worldwide. Thank goodness people are slowly getting home now and fingers and toes crossed that it doesn't start again. However, despite all the chaos, at least the weather has improved and training can continue! And if it hasn't, well, it's always sunny in our hearts (awww..)
Thank you to all the people who filled out the GPK User Feedback Form . This totally anonymous form tells us what you like, want more of and what needs improving, it takes only 2 minutes of your time. Thank you :)
Certain action has already been taken on the feedback and there are others that are being worked on. A quick note, Google Chrome automatically detects pages not in your browser language and will pop-up to translate it. I've been experimenting with HTML script to embed a translator into the website but this mrsite software isn't taking it :( And finally, all languages are welcome but it is up to the girls who contribute to the site what language they would write in and most girls write in 1 or 2 languages. If not, there is always Language tools.
Here is a gem of advice from one of the readers:
"It'd be great to somehow promote the forum so it will become popular enough to be a strong resource. While it works now, I think that it has the potential to affect the majority of the female parkour (online) community, if exposed better".
The Girlparkour Forum is a great resource with advice, stories and counselling from women all over the world. While I've put a banner on the 1st page, this is not as effective as it could be. Girlparkour relies on positive word of mouth and the good old internet search to bring people here. Alas,I do not have the time, energy or lack of morals to spam every internet forum and blog in cyberspace nor do I wish to add to the never-ending junk mail that invades mailboxes. However, if you as a reader like what you read, then please do spread the word.
Posting a link on your facebook status, blog or twitter would be great. Or telling your local parkour group or forum about the existance of this little website would be wonderful. Or even telling a girl who's just started that hey, this is a good place to visit.
And most importantly, please do continue contributing by posting in the Girlparkour Forums , sending in articles and reviews so that this resource can continue growing.
Finally, a reminder about the Traceuse Gathering that is taking place at the end of July, dates still in planning. To be added to the mailing list for latest details of Traceuse Gathering 2010, you can contact Liv at la.femme.traceur (at) gmail (dot) com You can read Emma's great review of last years gathering here .

16th February: New travelling traceuse page - first up, Hayley in Sweden
Since arriving in Sweden in January, Hayley has been posting in her native New Zealand forum about her experiences in Sweden and talking about a new community, training and snow, snow snow! It was such interesting reading about one girl's insight about a new place that the new Travelling Traceuse page has been introduced to the site!
The Travelling Traceuse are a series of essays (or blog or forum posts) by a woman (traceuse, freerunner, ADD ) who writes to share her experiences of training or practising in a new place. By sharing here what we learn by meeting other practitioners , hopefully we can enrich ourselves and help others :)
If you would like to share a Travelling Traceuse type of experience, please write to mail (at) girlparkour (dot) com. Links to a blog or forum post and photos or video links are most welcome!
Psst.. the link has also been added to the Side Navigation Bar so you can easily find it.

6th February: David Belle Interview on SuicideGirls website
Nicole Powers has just emailed us a link to her interview with David Belle, where he talks about filming on his new movie, parkour, training and the future. Here's a taster from this thought-provoking piece:
"Nicole Powers (Suicide Girl): How has it (parkour) changed since you started doing it? How has the art progressed?
David Belle: It's sort of like life. Initially the obstacles aren't too high, and as you gradually gain increasing self-assurance and greater amounts of confidence the obstacles are higher, and when you fall it hurts more. So you learn through good technique not to take stupid risks. I didn't ever want to give the impression that practicing this movement is crazy. I wanted to show that there's a method that allows you to overcome obstacles, to navigate obstacles without taking major risks."
You can read the full article here:
David Belle Ultimatum Interview with Suicide Girls
SuicideGirls describe themselves as "a community that celebrates ALTERNATIVE BEAUTY and alternative culture from all over the world. With a vibrant, sex positive community of women (and men), SuicideGirls was founded on the belief that creativity, personality and intelligence are not incompatible with sexy, compelling entertainment, and millions of people agree. The site mixes the smarts, enthusiasm and DIY attitude of the best music and alternative culture sites with an unapologetic, grassroots approach to sexuality."
2nd February: Gallery out now!
As always, women all over the world are beautiful and amazing in their training and here's the photo proof! Clikclikclik
1st February: A new month, so let's go!
The snow is still coming down in parts around the world and others are celebrating another new year - lunar new year! So wherever you are around the world and whatever you're doing, I'm sending positive energy to you for your training!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the site last month and to all the others who suppport and visit!
19th January: National Traceurs Reunion Event Review, Mexico
The RT09 was organized by Urban Runners who invited Thomas Couetdic, Chris Rowat and Ryan Doyle, who ran several workshops over 2 days. Nadia Michelle from Mexico City has written a great event review in Spanish and English! (Hooray Nadia!)

New Zealand born and bred Hayley has been smashing expectations (and men's egos) since she started, read her profile here.
11th January: 1000 miles of Parkour
Motor neurone disease (or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's disease) is a progressive, degenerative disorder that affects nerves in the upper or lower parts of the body. People with motor neurone disease gradually lose the use of their muscles and often need help with personal care, such as using the toilet, washing and dressing.
Johnny "Sticky" Budden is carrying out a "1000 MILES OF PARKOUR" to raise money and awareness for the MND Association. He will be doing 1000+ miles of parkour to Paris, from the most northern part of the British Isles fo Paris in late Feb. w his latest progress, blogs and vlogs on http://stickyparkour.com and the Facebook page. He has made the video below with celebrities and people from all the world sending him words of support.
You can donate to the cause at www.justgiving.com/JohnnyBudden and leave him challenges to carry out during his journey! Good luck Sticky!
7th January: What do you want from parkour?
Since making the decision to stop practising parkour regularly 1 year ago, Laura has written an afterword about her decision and her new view on how she plans to continue. A good one to read for especially for those going through injuries and/or questioning how and why they practise.
Lack of imagination is the only obstacle.

"I am a firm believer that it is important to learn parkour as a community regardless of gender, but I also feel that having something in common can only strengthen friendships and then the community in turn. Meeting earlier on Saturday will allow us to bond as treceuses and still join up with the group afterward. This is also a great opportunity to bring any friends that have voiced interest in parkour but were uncomfortable starting up in a larger group."

21st August: Spread the love!
There's been some misunderstanding recently about whether Girlparkour emphasizes the segregation of women by highlighting only women's resources: classes, women's jams, event reviews of women's jams and so on. To clarify, the website is a place to share the female experience in parkour, freerunning, ADD or whatever aspect of the movement you're interested in. There just aren't enough girls out there and it's great to see women represented. Unfortunately the logistics of keeping a website updated means that I can't cover everything, all the links in the world, all the videos in the world etc etc... so I have to choose to only focus on specific issues - if not I'd never get off the computer! And how else do you improve if you don't get out there and train...
In other words, if you're female, practising and just want to share your view in an article, photo, video link or event review of a jam whether girls or mixed - share it! Write on the Forum or write me! mail (at) girlparkour (dot) com
Spread the love :) x S

So we've taken the extra step to create the Salir con traceuses Española , Deutschen Chat-Raum, Chambre bavarder en français, and the Espaço traceuses Portugese
Let the communication start flowing ...
Sola who started www.girlparkour.com has made the decision to step down from her responsibilities on this website. It has not been a secret that Sola is preparing to welcome a new addition to her family and she remains girlparkour's "Number 1 Fan". We wish her and her family all the best :)

Recently we were very very honored and excited to be included on the APK Worldwide Links that locates parkour communities worldwide. However we were faced with a very interesting question by American Parkour : Where is GirlParkour located on the Google Maps? This caused a bit of discussion because GirlParkour is an internet portal to cover for traceuse activity globally so we don't have one global location.
After racking our minds and tracking the world with mouse clicks, we considered office locations in the North Pole, South Pole, Longitude 0 Latitude 0 .... and finally settled on the beautiful island of Sao Miguel, Azores Portugal. Check out the view from outside the GirlParkour window!
GirlParkour was also featured on the American Parkour website, there is a little bit of poetic writeup here, Big Thank You to APK!
And last but not least, GirlParkour is very honored and very excited that Janine Cundy has joined the GirlParkour Forums as Site Administrator. Great to have Janine's views and experience on board, so welcome Janine :)
All in all, it's been a big month of January behind us and of course we can't forget the ladies (and men) who made it great, so thank you to the traceuses and traceurs of January.

29th January: Good times at the BAPK Girls' Jam, San Francisco!
We have received an email from Jodie in San Francisco about the great time everyone had during the Girls' Jam! Here is what she said:
"The Jam was really fun. After some introductions with newcomers, we stretched and rolled out all of our joints. We took a warm up jog around the football field, and then Haley and I led the group in some conditioning. We practiced basic skills, and ended with a follow-the-leader run. It started to rain on us a little but that didn't last long and that's always a good chance to practice in varying conditions. The experience level went from brand new to fairly experienced (hard to define this) so it was great to see people teaching others. The girls are extremely supportive of each other which is another reason why I love these separate gatherings!"
The next Bay Area Parkour Girls' Jam will be on February 8th, so check out our Upcoming Events page or for more information email Jodie at jmmalarkey (at) gmail.com

Wednesday 17th September, 2008 - New Julie Angel documentary
Filmmaker Julie Angel's latest offering has just come online. It follows a female artist; Layla Curtis as she develops an art project with the City of Westminister and Parkour Generations. The art piece which showcased in London this summer, consisted of a series of short films featuring members of the Parkour Generations team, shot with a thermal imaging camera. The results are quite stunning and Julie's documentary shows the projects' development through the early research stages up until the final production. A very interesting insight and some beautiful imagery. The documentary can be viewed here.
Today I have had some wonderful news from Sarah in Sweden. The female scene there a short while ago was practically non-existent. (Except for Sarah!) But with the hardwork and effort of her and her organisation, great strides of progress are being made!
Her organisation have been doing a little PR work in order to try to boost numbers, especially female numbers! Last week they participated in a local event to raise money for worthy causes and they succeeded not only in raising money for the cause but also informing people about parkour and boosted their list of phone numbers for girls interested in parkour to 12!
Last tuesday saw their first ever girls only training session which was very successful and added three more traceuses to their core of regular 'serious' traceuses. Saturday will see the arrangement of another girl only training class with the hope that even more girls will be able to attend at the weekend.

In London there is some serious female representation underway thanks to the expert guidance and teaching from the guys at parkour generations. With the unriveled knowledge and level of guys such as Dan, Forrest, Kazuma and Stephane Vigroux showing the way, all the while headed by the extremely talented, dedicated and passionate Tracey Tiltman, there is some serious female talent emerging in the capital as well as some respected long standers. The network is becoming strong amongst the more experienced and the new comers and special thanks go to Tracey, Katty, Agota, Amy, Annty, Naomi, Susie, Julie, Karen, Bola, Charlee, Edina and all the other girls that contribute to this emerging community! On a nationwide note there are girls like Zoe and Justine representing, of course Meg up in Scotland and a tour of the UK would not be complete with out mentioning the original star of the UK scene, the very special Liv! Girl only classes now run twice monthly as well as well attended monthly girl jams organised by parkour generations. The highlight more recently has to be the production of the first all girl action edit by Julie Angel. The video entitled 'GoGirls' is part of Yahoo's Global city beatsproduction and can be viewed in the video's section. I would also like to congratulate Agota and Annty for recently being taken on as part of the parkour generations team, taking the total female representative count to 3! |

Mexico is starting to spawn a wealth of traceuses! It seems that in mexico city, under the guidnace of Kat, many females are starting to take an interest in parkour. Kat has been training very hard for some time now and it is paying off as the talent she is showing in her recent video, proves. We look forward to finding out more about this dedicated practitioner and about other girls involved in the strong Mexican scene. Also, see the video Reunion de traceuses showing a jam with girls from three Mexican teams; Monosurbanos, Urban runners and clan zero. |
